This is honestly my favorite place in the world and it’s all because of the memories that we’ve created here.
We were visiting my husband’s family in Fort Myers ~ 2013, so we were looking for places to go and things to do. I’ve always been a sea shell lover, so when I stumbled upon these islands, there was no question that we needed to go.
We only got to stay for 2 nights the first time we visited, but fell hard in love. In 2013, we stayed at the Seaside Inn in Sanibel. We had a Gulf Front Suite that was a few steps from the beach. We loved this quaint little hideaway that was perfectly located and had everything that we needed.
In 2014, we returned and stayed at the Sunset Beach Inn, which was a sister hotel of the previous. We had no reason for staying at another hotel, other then we were open to trying something different! We ended up staying on the top floor and had a Gulf View. We had nothing to say about this hotel, but we did prefer the Seaside Inn! We ended up having better luck with shelling and enjoyed the location a tiny bit more, but it’s still a great place to stay.
The amazing thing about this trip though, was getting ENGAGED. Dan took me to Bowman’s Beach because I wanted to take photos at the bridge at Sunset and while we were taking a photo when my camera was on self-timer mode, he proposed! It was such a surprise and I didn’t see it coming at all!
It was May 1st, 2014, that we got engaged and after a short lived venue search at home in NJ, we decided that it only felt right to get married in Sanibel/Captiva – coincidentally on the same day – May 1st, 2015. Dan will never have an excuse remembering that day!
We knew that we needed more of a resort to hosta wedding and we ended up having 55 Guests and some were bringing children. We were in between Casa Y’bel Resort and Tween Waters Inn. We actually were able to view and dine at both after our engagement, which totally helped in the decision making process.
Tween Waters Inn won for a few reasons. We loved the location and amenities that they had. We also had more options when it came to our big day. Tween Waters Inn is located on the thin stretch of Captiva where you have the Gulf on one side and the Bay on the other. It provided several options for accommodations in the sense that you could have a room, suite, cottage or views of the pool, Gulf or Bay. We also felt that this property offered the best pricing for our variety of guests that were traveling down to Florida for us. We had a total resort feel with plenty of activities, water sports, pools, a Spa, gym, restaurants, bars and a shuttle bus to take you anywhere in the nearby neighborhood. It’s kid and pet friendly too! Our friends and family had an incredible time and we obviously did too!
In 2016, we returned for our 1 Year Anniversary. We spent the first 3 nights in the Keys and then drove across Florida to spend the last 3 nights back at Tween Waters. We ended up wishing we spent the whole week here to be honest. It’s just more our style, pace and we have so many memories that it feels like we are coming back home.
