Is it me or is Collagen becoming a household staple? It seems to be the “it” thing when it comes to nutritional and beauty trends these days, so I’m wondering if it’s worth the hype?
Whether you follow trends or have friends – you probably know someone who uses it.
I’ve had such success and incredible experiences with all of our products, so I’ll be incorporating this into my routine to see if I see/feel a difference!
If you have questions like I did, I hope to answer some for you below!
What Is Collagen?
Our bodies produce collagen, which is an important structural protein. Collagen actually makes up 25-35% of our total body content in the form of connective tissue like tendons, ligaments, cartilage, bones and about 75% of your skin. It works with another protein called elastin. Collagen fills out your skin, while elastin helps your skin “snap back” when stretched.
Incorporating Collagen into your daily regimen is supposed to improve skin elasticity, support healthy nails and reduce the appearance of wrinkles.
Why should I use Beachbody Collagen Boost?
Starting around the age of 20, collagen (which is the protein that supports healthy nails and skin), begins to decline, leading to more more lines, wrinkles, duller skin and weaker nails.
So why can’t we just consume a bunch of gelatin and call it a day? If only it were that easy. (I personally would have cases of Sour Patch Kids in my pantry ha!)
Most dietary collagen and gelatin act just like all the protein we consume — which means they are broken down to the point where we aren’t necessarily increasing the amount of collagen we are ingesting.
The optimized peptides in this Boost work deep below the exterior to help unlock that more youthful appearance from the inside out.
What makes this Collagen Boost unique?
Unlike a lot of other collagen powders, Beachbody Collagen Boost’s patented ingredient has been clinically studied to help deliver beauty benefits. It also provides a potent, bioavailable form of collagen peptides, which is able to deliver measurable, and clinically studied results with only 2.5 g per scoop. There is also only one ingredient, which is pure collagen peptides, with no artificial colors, flavors, sweeteners, preservatives or gluten ingredients. It’s only 10 calories per servings, which is a nice bonus too!
How does Collagen Boost work?
Protein is made up of long chains of organic compounds called amino acids and there are 21 different amino acids, all which play different roles in the body.
When we break down these long chains into shorter chains of two or more amino acids, they’re called “peptides.”
Various peptides play various roles, including telling other parts of the body to do various tasks.
Collagen protein contains peptides that bind to cell receptors, starting a cell-alerting cascade that turns on the production of collagen and elastin in our skin cells.
In other words, one of collagen’s jobs is to make more collagen.
Normally, when you consume collagen or any other protein for that matter, the digestive process tears the long protein chain apart. Some of these peptides may survive in a useable form, while others will be broken down into individual amino acids to support a variety of cellular functions.
Naturally made by your body, collagen supports firmness and elasticity in your skin. But as you age, your body makes less of it and begins to lose its youthful appearance. When you consume collagen peptides, they travel throughout the body, including to the skin, where they help stimulate the production of new collagen.
When & How Should I Take Collagen Boost?
It dissolves quickly and mixes easily with Shakeology, your morning coffee, or foods like soups, stews or yogurt. You can use it anytime and anywhere, since it is odorless and tasteless!
And the most important question – Does Collagen Supplementation Actually Work?!
This is where I keep it real. Is there a way to truly know? By trade I’m a Critical Care Registered Nurse, but I don’t really care for research, EEEK! I actually loathed research courses and never did well in them, but SURE – there are medical studies, like this one and this one, which state that it works, HA!
At the end of the day, I’m all about forming my own opinion and checking things out. I’m the kind of girl that ignores the wine description to pick a bottle with a pretty label (and I know some of you do the same).
How Do I Plan To Incorporate It?
I’ve been adding a scoop to my daily smoothies in the morning, just because it’s easy to remember! It in fact is odorless and tasteless in case you were wondering!
